Description

Description

Thermo Scientific SMALP 200 and SMALP 300 are styrene maleic acid (SMA) copolymers designed for the solubilization and stabilization of membrane proteins.

These innovative products offer a streamlined approach to membrane protein isolation by combining solubilization and stabilization into a single step. The SMALP technology functions by interacting with the lipid bilayer and randomly encapsulating both the membrane proteins and their surrounding native lipids to form SMA lipid particles (SMALPs).

Features

  • Versatility—supplied as a 20% solution, allowing easy adjustment of concentration to suit specific experimental needs.
  • User-friendly—simply add at the optimal concentration and mix with homogenized preparation to initiate solubilization. 2.5% starting concentration is recommended.
  • Quality—produced using the highest quality polymer backbone

SMALP 200 and SMALP 300 represent a cutting-edge approach to membrane protein extraction, offering a detergent-free polymer-based method for isolating membrane proteins along with their surrounding lipid bilayer. This innovative technology provides researchers with a powerful tool for studying membrane proteins in their native lipid environment, potentially leading to more accurate structural and functional analyses.

SMALP is a registered trademark of Aurorium.

Disclaimer

The use of this styrene maleic acid copolymer (SMA) product for the manufacture of styrene maleic acid copolymer - lipid particles (SMALP), and the use of SMALP, are covered by one or more of the following patents owned by Malvern Cosmeceutics Limited: US 8623414, EP 1890675, GB 2426703. AU 2006253886, JP 5142898, IN 261468, CN ZL200680018957.2 and CA 2,611,144 and by the University of Birmingham: US 8754168.

The purchaser is licensed under those patents to use the SMA for the manufacture of SMALP and to use the SMALP for the purpose of research and development of proteins, including their production (including purification and solubilization), screening testing, analysis, characterization (including structural analysis and characterization), including for the purpose of drug screening and for the purpose of in vitro diagnostics, but not for the purpose of delivery of agents to humans or other animals for therapeutic, diagnostic (including in vivo diagnostics) or prophylactic purposes, which uses are specifically prohibited.
